The aims of the programme are to

(a) provide students with analytical, technical, theoretical and practical knowledge in aspects of food testing science; and

(b) equip them to play a key role in the industry of food testing science.

The programme is at a Bachelor degree with Honours level. The intended programme learning outcomes are in line with the generic level descriptors in Level 5 of the Qualifications Framework.

Job opportunity

Graduates will acquire a broad knowledge of the concepts, techniques, and tools in food testing science. Graduates will find career opportunities in a broad range of food testing and certification industries. Typical positions include food testing specialist, food testing technician, supervisors or quality controller on food production, food merchandiser, etc. The potential employers can be the food manufacturers, food retailers, and food testing laboratories. Besides the technical positions, graduates can also participate in the administration and management on the food and health care areas.

Further study

Graduates would also be qualified for further study in testing science, applied sciences, or related areas in any tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and elsewhere. The available postgraduate programmes include but not limited to MSc in Food Industry: Management and Marketing , MSc in Food Safety Management, MSc in Nutrition, Food Science and Technology , and MSc in Food Analysis and Food Safety Management .

Based on the graduate survey conducted in April 2018, 86% and 10% of graduates on testing and certification programmes in 2017 received employment opportunities and proceeded with their further studies within six months after graduation respectively. For the graduates who received employment opportunities, nearly half of them were employed in the testing and certification related industry.

Entrance Requirements:

    • Year 1 Entry
      • To be eligible to apply for admission to full-time Bachelor Degree programmes with Honours, a student shall have attained in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination:Level 3 or above in Chinese and English; Level 2 or above in Mathematics , Liberal Studies and an elective subject.
